This has been a partnership for the ages! India take an early lead in the ODI series. At 99/4 it did not look like the Indians were going to have it easy.
9:24 pm IST: And MS Dhoni seals it. Thirs successive fifty in an Indian run chase for India. India win by six wickets and 11 balls to spare.
9:21 pm IST: SIX – first of the match for Kedar Jadhav and the equation comes down to 5 off 12
9:04 pm IST: 100-run stand for the fifth wicket between Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni. India need 37 off 36 balls. Australia desperate for a wicket.
8:50 pm IST: Fifth ODI fifty for Kedar Jadhav off 67 balls. Excellent innings this under pressure and his partnership with MS Dhoni has out India in the driver’s seat. IND 194/4
8:36 pm IST: Fun fact – With his first six of the match, MS Dhoni surpasses Rohit Sharma as the Indian player with most sixes in ODIs (216). India 176/4 in 40 overs
8:21 pm IST: 50-run partnership between MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav as India cross 150-run mark. The du0 have settled in the middle and seem to have gauged the pace of the track. India slowly edging ahead with India needing 80 off 80 balls.
8:11 pm IST: Slow wicket this at the Rajiv Gandhi international stadium. Shot-making has not been easy. India 141/4 in 34.2 overs.
7:45 pm IST: MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav are ticking the scorecard over, but Australia are not giving away Anything. India 131/4 in 32 overs
7:25 pm IST: Adam Zampa with another vital blow. Ambati Rayudu prods forwards but edges the ball to wicketkeeper Alex Carey. India four down for 99, in a spot of bother
7:12 pm IST: Another big blow for India. The well set Rohit Sharma is foxed by a Nathan Coulter-Nile slower one. He goes for 37. Leading edge as Rohit closed the face of the bat a bit too early and an easy catch of Australia skipper Aaron Finch. India 95/3

6:36 pm IST: 50 up for India and that’s 50-run stand between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as well. After the early departure of Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have steadied India. IND 54/1 in 13
6:13 pm IST: Virat Kohli up and running two well-timed boundary. IND 29/1 in 8 overs
5:45 pm IST: Early breakthrough for Nathan Coulter-Nile. Shikhar Dhawan goes for a first-ball duck. Australia needed early wickets defending a below par total, they have got one here. Nothing too great about the delivery, it is full and outside off. Dhawan goes after it straightaway. He drives it square on the off side but does not keep it down. Maxwell at point takes an easy one.
4:53 pm IST: So there we have it. Australia finish on 236 for 7. And you can’t help but think that Australia would be disappointed with that total. With the type of start they got, with Usman Khawaja and later, Glenn Maxwell opening his bag of tricks. However, credit goes to Alex Carey and Nathan Coulter-Nile who added 62 runs for the sixth wicket to take the total to 236 from 173.
Right now, India have done remarkably well so far with Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav claiming two wickets each. India should get this, but then again, Australia are capable of springing in a few surprises. We’ll be back shortly with the second innings. Stay tuned!
4:32pm IST: 45 overs gone and Australia are yet to go past 200. What looked like a score easily heading towards 250, is 196 for 6. Shami has had a dream spell so far, giving away just 22 runs from eight overs with two maidens.
4:14pm IST: BOWLED HIM! Mohammed Shami strikes again, and it’s the big wicket of Glenn Maxwell that goes down for Australia as he plays down the wrong line and swung across the line. What lovely rhythm from Shami throughout this match, takes out the off stump. India continue to hurt Australia with regular blows. AUS 173 for 6. The final 10 overs remain. How much more can Australia conjure?
4:04 pm IST: Another Australian batsman with a start fails to build on it. Debutant Ashton Turner goes for 21 after putting on a 36-run stand with Glenn Maxwell for the fifth wicket. Mohammed Shami in to his second over of a fresh spell castles Turner. AUS 169/5
3:38 pm IST: What a delivery from Kuldeep Yadav to remove Peter Handscomb. Beaten in the air there! That is Kuldeep Yadav’s guile and even a good player of spin like Handscomb has been done in. Yadav flights this one beautifully outside off and draws the batsman forward. Peter is though nowhere close to the ball and the spin on the ball is too much. It goes through the gap between bat and pad towards Dhoni who collects and flicks off the bails in a flash. PH was at sea and had no chance of getting back. The budding partnership of 36 has been broken and it is a really good time for India to get this wicket, especially with a debutant deemed to bat next. AUS 137/4 in 31.1
3:28 pm IST: Glenn Maxwell is looking in good nick here, he moves to 17 off 14 balls. AUS 127/3
3:13 pm IST: WICKET! That’s a big wicket as the well-set Usman Khawaja is taken in the deep by Vijay Shankar. Kuldeep Yadav has his first wicket. Khawaja goes for 50 off 76 balls. AUS 101/3
2:55 pm IST: And there’s the BREAKTHROUGH. Marcus Stoinis went back on a short one from Jadhav, but can’t get the ball over the short mid-wicket fielder and the ball goes straight to Virat Kohli. Stoinis goes for 37. AUS 87/2 in 20.1 overs
2:50 pm IST: Part-timer Kedar Jadhav is on and his three overs have so far gone for just 16 runs. Considering it was slow start by Australia, they should have gone after the part-timer. AUS 83/1 in 19
2:36 pm IST: Fifty up for Australia as Marcus Stoinis and Usman Khawaja also bring up their 50-run stand for the second wicket. After struggling early on with the Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, the duo have managed to dominate first change Vijay Shankar.
2:23 pm IST: Vijay Shankar not able to find his line and length, two wides in two overs and the pressure applied by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami gets a bit eased out. Marcus Stoinis and Usman Khawaja seem at ease against the medium-pacer. AUS 40/1 in 10.2
2:06 pm IST: It is slow, but steady progress for Australia. Mohammed Shami’s four overs have yielded just six runs while Jasprit Bumrah’s three has ben hit for just nine runs. It’s a struggle for the Australian duo of Marcus Stoinis and Usman Khawaja. AUS 15/1 in 7
1:45 pm IST: A terrific punch down the ground by Marcus Stoinis for four off Mohammaed Shami. He is looking in good nick.
1:39 pm IST: WICKET! Aaron Finch is foxed by Jasprit Bumrah – that’s a duck in his 100th ODI . FINCH CAN’T BUY A RUN!. Edged and taken! Bumrah strikes in his third ball itself and Australia have lost their first wicket very early and that too of their skipper. He can’t buy a run at the moment, his last five innings’ scores are – 11, 6, 6, 14 and now a duck here. Top but this. It is once again bowled on a length and angled into the off pole. The batter has to play at it but it pitches and then straightens. Finch tries to defend but the ball takes an outside edge to Dhoni who takes a simple catch.
1: 35 pm IST: First over done and dusted. Mohammad Shami sends down a maiden as Usman Khawaja has little trouble in negotiating the first six balls of the match.
And we are underway!
Australia XI: Aaron Finch(C), Usman Khawaja, Marcus Stoinis, Peter Handscomb, Glenn Maxwell, Ashton Turner, Alex Carey(WK), Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa, Jason Behrendorff
India XI: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(C), Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni(WK), Kedar Jadhav, Vijay Shankar, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah
TOSS: Australia win toss and opt to bat first. Debutant for Australia in the form of Ashton Turner while for India, Ravindra Jadeja gets a game

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the 1st ODI of the five-match series between India and Australia to be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Saturday.
These five ODIs are India’s last chance before the World Cup starts May 30 to iron out any kinks. After losing both T20Is to Australia, India will be stung and ready for a further resurgence from a team that has not won an ODI series for over two years.
Virat Kohli‘s team needs to figure out their World Cup middle order, and so getting the likes of KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar playing time in this series is vital.
Australia, ranked sixth in ODIs, are defending World Cup champions and need to find a way to gain confidence before the tournament. Hampered by injuries to Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Kane Richardson and the woeful form of skipper Aaron Finch, can the visiting team channel their T20I success into the ODIs?
Australia’s coach Justin Langer has backed Finch – who will play his 100th ODI – to soon find form again after recent lean spell was extended in the T20I series win. Australia have five more ODIs against Pakistan after this tour, and with Steven Smith and David Warner’s one-year bans ending before the last two games of that series next month, the team combinations will prove a talking point.
