Indian legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal bamboozled Australian batsmen in the 3rd and the final ODI at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne claiming 6/42 in his ten overs on Friday, thus registering the best figures for a spinner Down Under – that too in his first match in the country. Chahal, introduced in the 24th over of Australia’s innings, made immediate impact removing the in-form Shaun Marsh – courtesy a superb stumping by MS Dhoni – off his second ball for 39, before getting rid of the other well-set batsman Usman Khawaja for 34. He then had Marcus Stoinis squared and the subsequent edge was taken by Rohit Sharma at slip. Chahal, playing his first game of the tour replacing a rested Kuldeep Yadav, went on to claim his second five-wicket haul when he got rid of Peter Handscomb for 58 – trapped in front. He added his sixth when Adam Zampa failed to clear long-off, with Vijay Shankar taking an easy catch.
Chahal bettered Ravi Shastri’s 5/15 against Australia in the Benson & Hedges World Series at Perth, in 1991.
