The high-profile India vs England 2018 Test series is finally living up to expectations. The first Test was close but India, the top-ranked Test team, were walloped at Lord’s. Trent Bridge has restored their confidence and now they are aiming to draw level in Southampton and possibly, even, daring to return home with a series 3-2 win.

It was at Southampton, famously, that England won the third Test against India four years ago to mount a resurgence that saw them come back from 0-1 to win the series 3-1. India will hope history does not repeat itself.

England have announced their XI, leaving out Ollie Pope. The team makes intriguing reading. An injured Bairstow is in, though Jos Buttler is likelier to keep wickets. Chris Woakes has been ruled out, and Sam Curran is almost a like-to-like replacement.
