Virat Kohli on Thursday night shot back at the media over the questions of his decision to move up in the batting slot to open for India in T20Is, but not getting enough results. Kohli sprang a surprise during the first T20I against England at Kanpur by coming out to bat with KL Rahul, and continued to open for the remainder of the series. However, the run-machine who has had an excellent season so far with the bat had a rare quiet series, as Kohli did not get the big runs which he has been used to. In the three-match T20I series, Kohli scored a mere 52 runs in 3 games at 17.33.

Kohli scored 29, 21 and 2 in the three-match T20I series which India clinched 2-1 in their favour, producing an impressive victory by 75 runs in the final game at Bengaluru. However, the captain had to face some tough questions in the media post India’s series win, which Kohli did not like in particular. Surprisingly, known for his hot temper, Kohli did show some nerves but at the same time he looked taking a leaf out of his predecessor MS Dhoni’s books to give media a fitting reply.

Kohli said during the press conference, “I had opened in IPL, Sir. I scored four hundreds. Nobody said anything at that point of time. Now that I have not scored which has turned into a problem….”

He continued, “That time people were saying he is such a revelation… now after two innings… sir focus on other people as well in the team. There are 10 more people; if I will do everything what will the others do. Let’s give others a chance as well.”

Kohli, however, mellowed down soon a bit and focussed on what India have achieved. “It is a great series win for us, I am more happy about that. I am not worried about my opening slot… what if I scored 70 runs in two matches, would you still have asked me the same question? No, right? So, be happy for the team this is a good series win. Enjoy”
