We are hours away from India’s cricket festival. The lucrative Indian T20 League is glaring upon us and its popularity transcends boundaries. Former England captain Michael Vaughan, in an article from Telegraph, wrote on his all-time XI of the league, which is heading to its 11th edition. Surprisingly, Rohit Sharma has not found a place in Vaughan’s side and MS Dhoni has been selected the skipper.
To make a note, Rohit is IPL’s most successful captain. Having taken charge midway in the 2013 season, Rohit led Mumbai to three titles. Dhoni, on the other hand, has ensured that Chennai have finished in the top four every time. He captained in six finals, winning two of them.
Vaughan has not followed the rule of picking a maximum of four overseas players. He has an explosive top-order, picking Chris Gayle and David Warner. While Gayle has been tournament’s best batsman, Warner has won the Orange Cap twice in last three seasons, guiding Hyderabad to a title win in 2016.

Virat Kohli follows the explosive southpaws and then there is AB de Villiers, followed by the league’s most successful batter Suresh Raina. At No.6 is the captain, Dhoni, who also will keep wickets. The side is rich on spin bowling all-rounders with Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Sunil Narine. Ashish Nehra and the tournament’s most successful bowler Lasith Malinga are the specialist pacers.
Vaughan has also picked Dwayne Bravo and stated, ” Depending on conditions, you would want a back-up plan and Bravo is the ultimate T20 cricketer. He is different class. He could slot in for Jadeja or Nehra. Has taken 400 wickets across T20 leagues and is a brilliant fielder and striker of the ball.”
