Amit Kumar, one of the alleged bookies arrested during Delhi Police’s investigation of the spot-fixing controversy, is actually former Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat medium-pacer Amit Singh.
According to a Times of India report, Delhi police official confirmed it by saying, ” Though his name was mentioned as Amit Kumar in the press release of Delhi Police, he is the same Amit Singh who played for Rajasthan Royals till last year.”
The Gujarat Cricket Association also commented on the matter and said, “Since Singh himself was a cricketer, he knew many other cricketers who played in the IPL. He had direct access to them and is believed to have played a key role as a middleman in approaching cricketers on behalf of bookies.”
Singh, who has more than 50 first-class wickets to his name was pulled up for an illegal bowling action two years ago. He was in and out of the Gujarat side and did not feature in any of Gujarat’s Ranji matches this season
Singh was initially omitted from the Rajasthan Royals squad but was put in the extended team. That gave him access to most players and lot of crucial insider information to carry out his nefarious activities.
