The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 auction started in Bengaluru today. With some big international cricketers available for bidding, defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bought some handy names to fill in their squad. SRH’s best buys were the Afghan duo of former captain Mohammad Nabi and young leg-spinner Rashid Khan. Nabi and Rashid became the first from their nation to take part in the cash-rich IPL. Senior pro Nabi was sold for his base price INR 30 lakhs while Rashid went for INR 4 crores. IPL 2017 is slated to begin from April 5 with the first game to be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and SRH.

Some other key players have also made it to the triumphant SRH camp. Domestic stars Eklavya Dwivedi and Tanmay Agarwal were also bought by David Warner-led side for INR 75 lakhs and 10 lakhs respectively. On the other hand, 45-year-old Pravin Tambe was sold for INR 10 lakhs. Tambe was earlier part of now-discarded Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Lions (GL) in IPL 2016.
Surprisingly, the auction was harsh on certain players who went unsold. Irfan Pathan, Chris Jordan, Mohammad Shahzad, Cheteshwar Pujara, Imran Tahir, Jason Roy and Alex Hales did not find a single bidder. SRH also have a whopping INR 15.65 crores in their bank at this moment, and will be eyeing some other essential players in their squad in the last session of bidding.
