Post Gujarat Lions’ (GL) thrilling victory against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in match 47 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017, opener Dwayne Smith praised his partner Ishan Kishan, calling him a future talent. Dwayne’s 39-ball 74 was the biggest contribution to GL’s innings, as they chased down a competitive 190 with the loss of 4 wickets. Hashim Amla’s 104-run effort went in vain as Smith and Kishan provided the team a powerful start to accumulate the desired runs. Kishan, who has played explosive knocks earlier, played a rather composed one of 29 off 24 deliveries, letting Smith play his natural game and take the team home. BCCI posted a video of Dinesh Karthik interviewing Smith, in which he was caught praising the young Indian batsman. “Kishan is a good guy for the future and we need to keep him going. I am sure he will be the one for the future.” He also spoke about the feel-good factor of his own knock. “It feels really good because I had some very disappointing knocks coming into this game but for me, I am always positive and to get a good score and to help the team to win was really good. So I am really happy.”
Smith was dropped by KXIP’s David Miller when he was on 42. When Karthik asked if he had given up when the catch went up, Smith agreed.
