The last time Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) met Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the Vinay Kumar-over played foil to Andre Russell’s herculean efforts. Three weeks since, KKR put up a superlative show to down CSK, making the chase of 178 look comfortable. It, however, was not a smooth sailing at one point.
KKR needed 81 off 50 balls when they lost their fourth wicket. Skipper Dinesh Karthik and U-19 World Cup star Shubman Gill combined to add an unbeaten stand of 83 off just 36 balls to guide KKR to the third spot in the VIVO IPL 2018 Points Table.

CSK slid to the third spot after the loss. They started well with Faf du Plessis going berserk against Mitchell Johnson. Sunil Narine crippled the middle-order but the innings received a good finish from MS Dhoni. Narine would later haunt CSK with the willow too, setting the platform for the chase for KKR.
