Irfan Pathan to leave Baroda?
In the recently concluded Ranji Trophy season, Pathan was dropped and given a cold shoulder despite scoring 80 in the opening match against Madhya Pradesh and scalping a wicket against Andhra.

Irfan Pathan and Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) have been at loggerheads for quite some time now. He was not a regular with Baroda since the 2016-17 Ranji season. In the recently concluded season, Pathan was dropped and given a cold shoulder despite scoring 80 in the opening match against Madhya Pradesh and scalping a wicket against Andhra. Prior to the 2017-18 Ranji season went underway, Pathan was appointed as the captain and mentor of Baroda.
Pathan had even expressed his disappointment to Indian Express saying, “Performance isn’t the issue. Fitness isn’t an issue. Discipline isn’t an issue. The reason you can find out from BCA.” When BCA secretary Snehal Parikh was asked for the reasoning behind dropping Pathan from the Baroda side, she mentioned fitness as a concern. Also, Baroda were on a look out for a young captain.
Deepak Hooda was appointed as the captain of Baroda soon after. Pathan has also been dropped from the side for the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Keeping all this in mind, Pathan has decided to end his 17-year old journey with Baroda. Pathan would be opting for another domestic team has sought from a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from BCA.
The mail that Pathan sent to BCA mentioned, “I have made this decision keeping in mind the current scenario and the current plans of the BCA with regard to my position in the team. I feel that my professional services can be utilised in a better manner and to the best of my abilities with a different team at this stage of my career. I write this email with humble gratitude toward the BCA for giving me the opportunity to serve as a player for over 17 years. I am and always will be extremely grateful for this opportunity. I can confidently say that these past 17 years playing for BCA have been among the most memorable years of my career.”

Pathan will reveal the team that he would be moving to next once the NOC is received. Meanwhile, BCA would be holding a meeting for the NOC in the coming week as desired by Pathan.
