NEW ZEALAND captain Kane Williamson is currently on the road to recovery and is quite optimistic about getting fit by the time of the ODI World Cup 2023 which is set to be held in India in October-November this year.

Williamson ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during the IPL 2023 opening match between Gujarat Titans and MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings on March 31 in Ahmedabad. He got surgery in April for it and ever since the question of his World Cup 2023 participation has been there.

However, New Zealand cricket and fans were happy as Williamson started batting earlier this month. He is not part of the team that will play the ODI series against England but will be traveling with them to be part of the practice and continue his rehab.

Kane Williamson Gives Update On ODI World Cup Plans

"To be at the World Cup is always special. It's still just guesswork at the moment in terms of when the day is or how it's tracking at the time," Williamson said speaking to the reporters at the Bay Oval.

"There's a lot of work to do. I am just really following the programme, with the professionals for physio, the support staff, and New Zealand Cricket. And it's tough, because you do have some good days, and then you have a few variable ones," he added.

Williamson also said how the World Cup being around the corner has been a tremendous motivation for him on his road to recovery.

"Something like that [World Cup] in the back of your mind is obviously motivating and you want to keep seeing those improvements," Williamson said.
