Anderson will undergo a groin scan after leaving the field on the first day, having bowled a little over six overs in his spell. While Anderson is not a part of England’s squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, he will have a massive role to play right after the tournament when the English side faces South Africa at home for a Test series. The three-match Test series between England and South Africa begins July 6, at Lord’s. Anderson is unlikely to bowl again in the ongoing County Championship match and he would be assessed on Saturday, May 20, said Lancashire head coach Glen Chapple, reports Sky Sports. The 34-year-old pace spearhead, who last featured for England in three out of their five Tests against India late last year, was set to have a long run for his County side. Anderson was set to play four matches in Division One of the County Championship, which would have warmed him up well for the Test series. It must be noted at England, who had beaten South Africa in their last meeting in an away series, had lost at home in 2012 by a margin of 0-2 in a three-match Test series. South Africa will be spending as many as 12 weeks in England, playing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, before which the two teams will play a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series. England and South Africa will also play a three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series ahead of the Tests.
