Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood has admitted that he tried far too many things during the Ashes 2015 series in England, which hampered his overall performance. Hazlewood did not feature in the fifth and final Test and claimed 16 wickets in the first four Tests that he played. His inconsistency was one of the main reasons for Australia’s flop show with the ball as they failed to make most of the opportunities for bowlers when presented. Hazlewood made his debut in the last Australian summer, and has been rested from their upcoming tour of Bangladesh keeping the busy summer ahead in mind.

Hazlewood told the Cricket Australia’s (CA) official website that he tried too many things in order to generate swing. “I think I started very well, the first two Tests were probably the best for me, then things caught up with me. I think I just probably lacked consistency in the third and fourth Tests. I probably tried to do a bit too much with the ball.” ALSO READ: Hazlewood’s compatibility with Johnson and Starc makes competition tougher in Australian bowling ranks

“You see that Dukes ball swinging and nipping around and you try and do too much, rather than just be patient. I think the Australian wickets are going to be a bit flatter and it will suit that, you have to be a bit patient and wait for wickets,” Hazlewood added.

Hazlewood has had a long break since the end of the fourth Test, as he did not feature in the limited-overs leg of the series in England and has been rested for the tour of Bangladesh. He says he is looking forward to make a comeback soon with the New South Wales Blues in the Matador Cup. “Everything should be fine once I get back up and running. I had little break, three-and-a-half weeks off bowling, just enough to get stiff and sore again when you start back up, but I’m really looking forward to getting going again.”

Talking about his experience of playing in England, Hazlewood said, “Just learning the conditions, with the change of ball (to a Dukes) as well and the length of the tour, it was my longest time away from home. I think next time the bowling attack will have learned a lot from how we went about it and the batters will as well.”
