Former England opener Michael Carberry became the latest entrant in the long list of cricketer who have suffered from cancer. Last evening it was confirmed that Carberry was diagnosed with the deadly disease and will require immediate treatment. Roughly about 30+ cricketers have suffered from one or the other form of cancer, have either survived the ordeal or given into the aliment. Many among the list include players who have battled cancer and have come out successfully to continue their normal way of life. Famous cricketers who have battled cancer are Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, former England opener Geoff Boycott, South African legend Graeme Pollock, and Australia former Test skipper Michael Clarke to name a few. Maximum number of players have mainly suffered from skin and lung cancer. India’s Arun Lal survived one of the rarest form of cancer which is Cystic Carcinoma Cancer, he recently got it operated and have returned back to commentary. A total of eight England player’s have suffered from Cancer starting from Tony Greig, David Shepherd, Mike Denness, Fred Trueman, Boytcott, Carberry, John Emburey and Brian Statham. India is second on the list with 5 players in Yuvraj , Yograj (Son-father duo), Jai Prakash Yadav, Swaroop Kishen and Budhi Kunderan. Australia is next on the list with 4 players Clarke, Richie Benaud, Matthew Wade and Simon O’Donell.

Carberry has represented England in six Tests, five of which came during the 2013-14 Ashes series in Australia. He has also featured in six One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and one Twenty20 International (T20I).
