Greetings everyone! Welcome to CricketCountry’s live match coverage of the fourth ODI between England (ENG) and Sri Lanka (SL). The venue for today’s clash is the Kennington Oval, London and the hosts have a chance to seal the series here. After the first ODI ended in a tie, the second was a dominating 10-wicket win by England. The last match was abandoned due to rain and hence, England lead 1-0, but Sri Lanka still have a chance to win the series if they manage to win today’s match and go onto win the next one at Cardiff, although that looks quite unlikely. Nonetheless, sit back and enjoy the live action from England and lets hope we have a cracker of a game. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: England  vs  Sri Lanka , 4th ODI match at London

Live Cricket Score and Updates: England 282/4 | Overs  38 | Target: 308| BATTING: Jos Buttler 1 (1), Jonny Bairstow 23 (21): Pradeep knocks over Jason Roy with a slower delivery. Crowd gives a standing ovation for his blistering 162-run knock, which is the highest by any Englishman in a 50-over game. Robin Smith had scored 168 in a 55-over game. England need 26 off 24 balls.

OUT! Jason Roy b Pradeep 162 (118)

Live Cricket Score and Updates: England 257/3 | Overs  35 | Target: 308| BATTING: Jason Roy 131 (96), Jonny Bairstow 1 (2): Jason Roy continues the rampage. He brings up his maiden 150. This is the first time an England batsman scored past 150 since Andrew Strauss’ stunning 158-run knock in ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. England need 51 off 42.

Live Cricket Score and Updates: England 226/3 | Overs  31 | Target: 308| BATTING: Jason Roy 131 (96), Jonny Bairstow 1 (2): Gunathilaka takes an absolute ripper at backward point to send Eoin Morgan back to the pavilion. It was a much needed breakthrough for the visitors. However, Jason Roy is still firing on all cylinders. He has managed to kept the scoreboard ticking in this high-pressure situation. England need 82 off 66.

OUT! Eoin Morgan c Gunathilaka b Lakmal 22 (27)

Live Cricket Score and Updates: England 189/2 | Overs  25 | Target: 308| BATTING: Jason Roy 110 (78), Eoin Morgan 7 (11): Jason Roy brings his third ODI hundred in just 74 balls. His innings is studded with 11 fours and 2 sixes. If he continues his stellar show, England will comprehensively win this match, sealing the series 3-0. It’s his second hundred of this hundred, and is in contention for the Player of the series of award. END need 119 off 102 balls.

Live Cricket Score and Updates: England 168/2 | Overs  22 | Target: 308| BATTING: Jason Roy 95 (68), Eoin Morgan 1 (3): England are going all guns blazing. Despite losing Moeen Ali early, Jason Roy and Moeen Ali did a commendable job to put the hosts in a commanding position. Both stitched up 149-run partnership before Root holed out to Pradeep at fine leg.

OUT! Root c Pradeep b Gunathilaka 65 (54)

Live Cricket Score and Updates: England 122/1 | Overs  16| Target: 308| BATTING: Jason Roy 75(54), Joe Root 42(35): England are well ahead of the DL par score at the moment. Roy has been really aggressive in his approach, has struck sixes, fours every now and then. Roy has also used his feet well. Meanwhile, Root has pulled deliveries really well. The duo brought up the hundred for England and soon also brought up the hundred-run stand between them. Sri Lanka, however are trying every bit to get a wicket out of somewhere. To be honest, they haven’t let Hales’ absence in the top-order affect the way they approach a chase.

Live Cricket Score and Updates: England 85/1 | Overs  12| Target: 308| BATTING: Jason Roy 51(40), Joe Root 31(25): The duo has moved forward magnificently. Roy has played shots almost all around the wicket and got to his half-century in 39 balls. He has continued his form from where he left at Edgbaston. Root, has made most of wide and short deliveries. He hasn’t had to use much power in his shots, has placed it perfectly at times and gently timed it on occasions. Shanaka came into the attack in the 12th over and started off poorly. Sri Lanka need a wicket here.

Live Cricket Score and Updates: England 42/1 | Overs  8| Target: 308| BATTING: Jason Roy 31(29), Joe Root 10(12): Roy and Root have been comfortable against the bowlers. Roy did survive one LBW review off the bowling of Mathews, who brought himself into the attack early, but overall has had no problems whatsoever. On the other hand, Root’s two boundaries have been about pure timing, with appreciated sounds of ‘Roooot’ from the crowd at the Oval. Farveez Maharoof came into the attack in the 8th over. And Roy, sent him for a six over long-on.

Live Cricket Score and Updates: England 18/1 | Overs  4| Target: 308| BATTING: Jason Roy 16(15), Joe Root 0(2): Moeen Ali and Jason Roy have come out to open for the hosts. Roy started off well with a boundary in the first over off Lakmal. Sri Lanka will look for wickets and England will be wanting to save them as if the DL method comes in to the picture, ENG would want to keep more wickets in hand to be on the safer side. Roy is looking in good touch though. He hit a cracking shot through the covers to get a four in the 3rd over. Pradeep though gave England the breakthrough as Ali edged one to the keeper.

OUT! Moeen Ali c Chandimal b Pradeep 2(7)

INNINGS REPORT

England will need 308 runs to win according to the revised target, after the DL method calculations.

Live Cricket Score and Updates: Sri Lanka 305/5 | Overs 42 | BATTING: Angelo Mathews 67(54), Dasun Shanaka  19(10): Angelo Mathews and Dasun Shanaka have struck plenty of boundaries to take Sri Lanka to a good score. Mathews, more importantly struck three consecutive fours in the 40th over. He wasn’t able to find the middle of the bat for most of his innings but he did make it up for the deliveries he faced early on. Shanaka too played his part. We have a game on our hands!

Live Cricket Score and Updates: Sri Lanka 268/5 | Overs 39 | BATTING: Angelo Mathews 45(44), Dasun Shanaka  5(2): Another set batsman was sent back to the pavilion by David Willey as Chandimal after a well made 63, tried to sweep one and was bowled. Prasanna then came in to bat but couldn’t stay long at the crease. He was also done in by Willey.

OUT! S Prasanna b Willey 9(8)

OUT! Chandimal b Willey 63(51)

Live Cricket Score and Updates: Sri Lanka 241/3 | Overs 36 | BATTING: Angelo Mathews 35(39), Dinesh Chandimal  60(48): The experienced pair of Mathews and Chandimal have looked to attack and capitalize on the start. The captain has looked to hit the ball hard. Chandimal on the other hand, brought up his fifty with a shot for six, over third man. England won’t mind singles at this stage, as the pitch looks  like a belter.

Live Cricket Score and Updates: Sri Lanka 207/3 | Overs 31 | BATTING: Angelo Mathews 24(23), Dinesh Chandimal  39(34): Plenty of singles and doubles in the last few overs. Although, both the players have looked to find the big ones. Mathews did strike a six off Ali’s spin, in the direction of the breeze. In the 31st over, Chandimal hit a brilliant six while coming on the front foot and hitting one straight down the ground.

Live Cricket Score and Updates: Sri Lanka 171/3 | Overs 26 | BATTING: Angelo Mathews 6(8), Dinesh Chandimal  22(19): Chandimal’s six off Moeen Ali showed what approach SL would adopt going forward. But Gunathilaka’s wicket put them on the back foot. Rashid bowled a quicker one to him as he saw him making room. He mistimed one to Ali and was out! Mathews and Chandimal will, like previous ODIs have to take the burden of scoring runs now.

OUT! Gunathilaka c Moeen Ali b Adil Rashid 62(64)

Live Cricket Score and Updates: Sri Lanka 148/2 | Overs 22 | BATTING: Danushka Gunathilaka  61(60), Dinesh Chandimal  6(7): As soon as play resumed, Gunathilaka managed to reach his fifty, a very well made one. But Kusal Mendis perished in the very next over, trying to find a boundary off Rashid. Plunkett took a terrific catch. Chandimal has arrived at the crease. Will we see a change of approach from SL now, a change in the batting order perhaps?

OUT!Kusal Mendis c Plunkett b Adil Rashid 77(64)

Good news! The play will start at 16:30 Local time! It will be a 42-over game now.Two bowlers can bowl 9 overs and 3 bowlers can bowl 8 overs. Meanwhile, Alex Hales is off the pitch receiving treatment for his back.

There will soon be an inspection at 16:20 Local time and we might have play soon. The number of overs per-side will be reduced.

Finally, some respite! The groundsmen are out in the middle and the covers might soon come off.

It would be a real shame if this match is also abandoned due to rain. However, Rain has reigned supreme all over England today!

And while we wait, watch how England registered the only win of the series

Sadly, we might lose overs from here on!

It is still drizzling at the Oval but the umpires have been out in the middle for some time now.

The play still has not resumed till now and perhaps the weather was expected to ruin the proceedings as well.

Here is the story of the match so far

Kusal Mendis has been the star of the ODI so far. Here is his superb knock until now! More to follow!

RAIN STOPS PLAY!

Live Cricket Score and Updates: Sri Lanka 127/1 | Overs 18.1 | BATTING: Danushka Gunathilaka  48(49), Kusal Mendis  75(59): Gunathilaka and Mendis have both looked comfortable against spin as Moeen Ali was also introduced from the other end. They found occasional boundaries. But what might come as bad news, would be the fact that it has started to pour-in at London.

Live Cricket Score and Updates: Sri Lanka 105/1 | Overs 15 | BATTING: Danushka Gunathilaka  43(41), Kusal Mendis  58(48): Both the batsmen have played well until now. Adil Rashid was not allowed to settle in right from his first over as Gunathilaka came down the wicket to loft one over mid-off for four. And in Rashid’s second over, he struck two consecutive boundaries as well. Meanwhile, Mendis reached his half-century off just 44 balls. He looks like he might love to carry on in this crucial game for SL. Gunathilaka is fast approaching one too.

Live Cricket Score and Updates: Sri Lanka 64/1 | Overs 10 | BATTING: Danushka Gunathilaka  21(28), Kusal Mendis  40(31): Sri Lanka have carried on well.  The important thing from their point of view is that they haven’t lost any wicket. Mendis has looked good. Gunathilaka has shown a desire to stay in there as well. Meanwhile, the rain has started to drizzle a bit.

Live Cricket Score and Updates: Sri Lanka 43/1 | Overs 6 | BATTING: Danushka Gunathilaka  11(15), Kusal Mendis  31(20): Kusal Mendis has looked positive since he has come out to bat. SL need to be more aggressive today as well. Mendis lifted the ball twice over the in-field to get two boundaries in Willey’s over. He hit another one on the off-side off Woakes, and yet another one straight down the ground. Consecutive fours! Mendis is looking in sublime touch.

Live Cricket Score and Updates: Sri Lanka 9/1 | Overs 2 | BATTING: Danushka Gunathilaka  7(8), Kusal Mendis  1(3): SL started off well. Gunathilaka pushed one down the ground off Willey to get his first boundary. But in the 2nd over bowled by Chris Woakes, Perera was run-out when Gunathilaka tried to sneak in a single.

OUT! K Perera run out (Bairstow) 1(1)

Out come the Sri Lankan openers – Kusal Perera and Danushka Gunathilaka.

Looks like we might have plenty of rain stoppages today! The rain might just interfere with the proceedings.

Sri Lanka Playing XI: Kusal Perera, Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal(w), Angelo Mathews(c), Seekkuge Prasanna, Upul Tharanga, Dasun Shanaka, Farveez Maharoof, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep

England Playing XI: Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (c), Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett

TOSS: England have won the toss and will bowl first!

England’s top-order failed in the first ODI at Trent Bridge but made up for it in the next game when Alex Hales and Jason Roy put on a massive opening partnership to lead them to a victory. Joe Root has not fired but a big innings might not be far away. The middle-order is in good form too, Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler can chip-in with crucial knocks. The England bowling department though has been superb. They have stuck to their plans and made sure they get wickets to keep the run-rate in control. Liam Plunkett and Chris Woakes have been outstanding. England vs Sri Lanka 2016, 4th ODI at London, Predictions and Preview: Hosts eye series win

Sri Lanka’s top-order has had issues in the series. Promoting Upul Tharanga up the batting order could be one of their tactics in the 4th ODI. Dinesh Chandimal and skipper Angelo Mathews have contributed with runs but the team still has not got enough runs on the board to defend against a strong English batting order. The bowlers Suranga Lakmal and Nuwan Pradeep will have to improve. All-rounder Farveez Maharoof will have to chip-in with both bat and ball as well. If Sri Lanka want to keep their hopes alive, they will have to put in a complete performance today and tick all the boxes.

Squads:

England: Eoin Morgan (c), Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Joe Root, Jos Buttler (wk), Moeen Ali, Chris Jordan, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett, Steven Finn, Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes, James Vince

Sri Lanka: Angelo Mathews (c), Kusal Perera, Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal (wk), Dasun Shanaka, Seekkuge Prasanna, Upul Tharanga, Dhananjaya de Silva, Nuwan Pradeep, Suranga Lakmal, Lahiru Thirimanne, Farveez Maharoof, Suraj Randiv

There is nothing official about the statement of replacement yet but Sourav Ganguly is an appropriate candidate for the post because he is just as talented cricketer like the all time highest wicket taker of India, Anil Kumble and above all Dada is the chairman of the technical committee of the BCCI,
