Hello and Welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the UEFA Euro 2016, Group E, Match 10 between defending champions Belgium and Italy at the Stade de Lyon in Lyon on Monday. We will be bringing to you the live updates from this tie. Belgium’s golden generation will be aiming to live upon their image and win the prestigious UEFA Euro 2016. The squad is managed by veteran Marc Wilmots, who has been with the national team since May 2012. The Belgium side boasts some of the world’s best players among their ranks. Starting off in goal, Thibaut Courtois is one of the best goalkeeper in the business. Euro 2016: Belgium vs Italy, Prediction and Preview, Group E, Match 10 at Lyon: Belgium look to down Italy
90 + 2 mins: GOALLLLL! ALL OVER at LYON! An intelligent pass from Antonio Candreva, ends as a superb goal from Graziano Pelle. He shoots from about 10 yards and the Belgium players are left with a 0-2 defeat in their opening match of Euro 2016.
73 mins: MORE SUBSTITUTION. Romelu Lukaku has another chance, has the ball as he delivers it right inside the Italian area. That’s it, he is off for the night. Moments later he is replaced by Liverpool’s 21-year-old forward Divock Origi.
67 mins: All of a sudden the Belgium side’s dominance has begun. They need a goal here, their body language and counter attack is sending that message clear and out. Meanwhile, that is frustrating the Italians. Another player booked with a YELLOW CARD. Giorgio Chiellini is booked for bringing Eden Hazard, who was in full flight, down.
57 mins: ANOTHER CHANCE. This time for Italy. Graziano Pelle with the shot but is left frustrated after Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois saves it with a powerful header by diving to his left.
53 mins: Oh man, that was a close chance for Belgium. What a mess by Romelu Lukaku afte reciveing a lovely pass from Kevin de Bruyne. They can’t miss these chances.
Second half KICKS OFF!
45 mins: The referee blows the whistle for HALF-TIME. So far so good. No side has been bad. Italy have got an upper hand for the next 45 mins, courtesy of the goal. Let’s see, if Belgium can go pass the runner’s up of the previous edition.
40 mins: Belgium seem to have lost touch after Italy’s early goal. Manchester United midfielder, Marouane Fellaini makes a pass to Axel Witsel on the edge of the box, but the shot was poor. Nevertheless, Italy have got more comfortable after the goal.
31 mins: GOALLLLL! Italy take the lead. Their defender Leonardo Bonucci probably made the pass of Euro 2016 so far, he passes it to Emanuele Giaccherini who is well inside to Belgium box. He made one touch and the ball went inside the net!!! The Italian supporters in the stands erupt, excellent scenes at Lyon.
24 mins: Radja Nainggolan once again has a shot at the net, he goes for it from as far as 30 yards, clearing the Italian defense. He thinks there was contact and demands for a corner. The referee is not interested. Calls the play to continue.
12 mins: GOOD SAVE! The Italian goalkeeper, 38-year-old, makes an excellent save when a frustrated midfielder of Belgium, Radja Nainggolan has his first shot at the net. Gianluigi Buffon still have lots of football in him, he goes down and is up quickly as he hits the ball away.
6 mins: Italy’s turn now. It is Eder who has the first shot at the target. However, his shot is deflected and it goes into the hands of Thinaut Courtois.
4 mins: The Everton striker Romelu Lukaku is already attacking here, not easy for the Italians to keep him quiet for a long time in his Game No. 10 of Euro 2016. He goes into the Italian box and shoots from towards the goal. The centre-back Andrea Barzagl was alert enough to block that.
Playing XI:
Italy: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Candreva, Parolo, de Rossi, Giaccherini, Darmian, Pelle, Eder
Belgium: Courtois, Ciman, Alderweireld, Vermaelen, Vertonghen, Witsel, Nainggolan, Fellaini, De Bruyne, Hazard, R. Lukaku
The main question Italy coach Antonio Conte has to answer is who will spearhead his attack. Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne, striker Ciro Immobile and Eder are the prime candidates, while Southampton’s Graziano Pelle and Juventus’ Simone Zaza are also vying to start. Immobile says Belgium “must be respected, but not feared”. There is a steely air around the Italians who are chasing a second European title having been drubbed 4-0 by Spain in the Euro 2012 final four years ago in Kiev.
Belgium must find a way past the likes of experienced trio Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini. “Since they’ve been playing together for many years, then you don’t even need to try things at times as they all work like clockwork,” said Italy’s West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna. Wilmots says his forwards will have to overcome the Italians height at set-pieces. “Italy use their height to block corners and free-kicks, so we are aware and have to be very concentrated when that happens,” said the Belgium coach.
