Jon Jon Smuts clobbered 10 boundaries and two sixes in his knock of 88 off 65 balls to propel the Warriors to 171 against the South Australia Redbacks in their Champions League T20 match at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad.
Smuts showed aggressive intent right from the start and hit the Redbacks bowlers all over the park.
After Redbacks pacer Shaun Tait rocked the Warriors early dismissing star batsman Ashwell Prince for three, Smuts teamed up with Colin Ingram to bail his team out of trouble.
Smuts and Ingram added 73 runs for the second wicket. Ingram hit one six and three boundaries in his knock of 30 off 24 balls.
After the dismissal of Ingram, Smuts teamed up with Mark Boucher to add another 80 runs for the fourth wicket.
Tait was punished by the Warriors’ batsmen as he gave away runs in his four overs for one wicket.
Earlier, Warriors skipper Johan Botha won the toss and elected to bat first.
Brief Scores: Warriors 171 for 5 in 20 overs (JJ Smuts 88, Mark Boucher 34, Colin Ingram 30; Daniel Harris 2 for 23, Daniel Christian 2 for 24) vs SA Redbacks
