THE FIFTH Ashes Test between England and Australia will kick off on July 27 at Kennington Oval in London. England were robbed of a win in the fourth Test as rain played spoilsport on the final two days. Australia lead the series 2-1 and will retain the Ashes irrespective of the outcome of the fifth Test. England’s last win in an Ashes series came in 2015, while the 2019 series ended as a tie.

Meanwhile, England captain Ben Stokes was pranked by teammate Mark Wood who played a Barbie song during the skipper’s press conference on eve of the Test. Wood’s act left everyone, including Ben Stokes in splits.

England Announce Playing 11 For 5th Ashes Test

England have decided to go with an unchanged playing 11 for the fifth Test, with James Anderson and Stuart Broad retaining place. There were big questions about James Anderson’s place in the England XI given his ordinary performances in the Ashes 2023, however, Stokes backed the veteran pacer and termed him the greatest fast bowler to play the game.

“He’s quality, man. It’s very hard for you guys to sit here and say he’s not,” said Stokes

“Although he’s not had the impact or the wickets he would have liked to in this series, he’s a quality bowler and quality performer. Jimmy’s come under a bit of flack for that but if Joe [Root] hadn’t scored the runs he would have liked, you wouldn’t be questioning him staying in the team as a batter.

“James Anderson is the greatest fast bowler to play the game and he’s still looking as good as he was two years ago, although he hasn’t had the impact that he would have liked in this series.”

Different Game, We Will Have To Start Over Again’: Ben Stokes On 5th Test

England dominated Australia in the 4th Test at Old Trafford before rain quashed their hopes of a win. Stokes, however, feels that the team will have to start over again.

“It’s a new game and things can play out differently,” Stokes said. “We just need to go out there and put the same amount of pressure onto Australia as we’ve been trying to throughout this series.

TRENDING NOW

“I thought the way we did that at Old Trafford, Australia didn’t have an answer, particularly when we had the bat in hand. It was great viewing, watching the lads go about their business with the bat. But [it’s the] same old things: completely different game, and we’ll just have to start all over again.”
