Meg Lanning ruled out of Super League due to shoulder injury
Lanning was supposed to play for Surrey Stars but will now stay in Australia for rehabilitation.

Australia Women’s team captain Meg Lanning, has withdrawn from the inaugural Super League T20 tournament due to a right shoulder injury. Lanning was supposed to play for Surrey Stars but will now stay in Australia for rehabilitation. Kate Mahony, Southern Stars physiotherapist said Lanning was experiencing right shoulder pain over the past weeks. “Following scans we have identified a cartilage tear in her right shoulder,” Mahony said as quoted by Cricbuzz. “As a result, we have made the decision to keep Meg in Brisbane where she will undergo rehabilitation in preparation for the Southern Stars’ tour of SriLanka in September and upcoming Australian summer,” she added. Lanning was disappointed to have missed out of the tournament which will feature six teams playing 15 T20 matches in a round-robin format. She said, “The tournament concept and growth of women’s cricket across the globe is fantastic and I would have loved to have taken part,” as quoted by BBC.
Earlier this year, in an interview to Cricbuzz, Lanning had said, “I am really looking forward to it and can’t wait to take part. I think it has the potential to capture new fans like the WBBL was able to do in Australia but it is its own tournament and I am sure there will be some unique things about it too.”
The news has come a day after it was confirmed that Sarah Taylor, England’s wicketkeeper, won’t be turning out to play for Lancashire Thunder this year as she would be taking an indefinite break from the game because of anxiety issues. The Super League is set to begin on July 30. Yorkshire Diamonds will take on Loughborough Lightning in the first clash which will take place at Headingley, Leeds. The final of the tournament will be held on August 21 at County Ground in Chelmsford.
