Mithali Raj surpasses Charlotte Edwards to become leading ODI run-scorer

Mithali Raj © Getty Images[/caption] Mithali Raj continues to break record, as she surpassed Charlotte Edwards tally of 5,992 runs to become the leading ODI run-scorer. Charlotte had achieved the feat in 180 innings, while Mithali attained it in 164. Mithali now leads the list that comprises of women's greatest cricketers such as Balinda Clarke (4,844), Karen Rolton (4,814), Claire Taylor (4,101), among others. It, however, does not end there. She also brought up her 6,000 ODI runs with a six down town against Australia in ICC Women's World Cup 2016, becoming the first to achieve this milestone.

Mithali recently became the first batter in women’s ODI to register seven consecutive scores in excess of fifty. She then neared the record of Karen of most ODI wins. Karen has won 108, while Mithali won 104. Mithali, on her debut in 1999, scored a century against Ireland at Milton Keynes, an innings that still records her as the youngest ever ODI centurion. Mithali has managed to keep her average above 40 in ODIs in 15 calendar years since her debut - the same number as Sachin Tendulkar managed in his career. As well leading from the front with the bat, Mithali has been her country's staggering leader, captaining the side since 2004. The highlight of her captaincy came in 2005, when at the age of 22, she captained India to their first ever Women's World Cup final, but were eventually beaten by Australia. Mithali might soon claim another record to her name and once again topple over Charlotte: Mithali has captained India in 105 games, while Charlotte has captained England in 117 games.
