The cricket fraternity was shocked to learn that Hardik Pandya will be joining the Mumbai Indians from the Gujarat Titans in advance of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. In each of the previous two seasons, Hardik Pandya captained GT, and he guided them to the championship game. The team won its first championship in 2021, and after falling to Chennai Super Kings in the championship game the following year, they finished second. Before the new season, Pandya made an unexpected move to MI, his old squad, and Mohammed Shami, an Indian fast bowler, had a definite opinion on the event.

Mohammed Shami was questioned about the entire “chapter” in which Hardik Pandya was not the GT captain during an interview.

“You see, it doesn’t matter who is leaving,” said Kisike Jane. The balance of the team must be observed. Hardik was present, and he led us expertly. We were able to win once after he led us to the final in both editions. However, Gujarat has never signed Hardik before. He can choose to stay or go at this point. Now that Shubman is captain, he will acquire experience as well. He too may depart one day. It’s also a component of the game. Participants come and go, Shami said to News24.

It’s crucial to manage the responsibility that comes with being captain while still paying attention to your performances. And Shubman has been given that task this time around. Though the players are essentially the same, he may be carrying some weight. Thus, he need not be concerned. In order to get the most out of your players, you must effectively manage them,” he continued.

Shami, wrestler Antim Panghal, and the archers Ojas Pravin Deotale, Sheetal Devi, and Aditi Gopichand Swami were among the celebrities who earlier accepted the Arjuna Award from Indian President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The Arjuna Award, the second-highest athletic accolade in India, is granted for demonstrating leadership, sportsmanship, and discipline along with good performance over the course of the preceding four years.

The Arjuna Awards for 2023 have been given to a total of 17 athletes, including the speedster Shami, who shattered multiple records and finished as the top wicket-taker in the ICC Cricket World Cup in India last year with 24 scalps.

A day before the ceremony, the seasoned pacer expressed gratitude for the much-coveted honour and remarked that not everyone could earn it, even after years of hard effort.

This reward is a pipe dream; people die away and this prize is unattainable. That I am a nominee for this award makes me delighted. Since I have witnessed so many people throughout my life receive this honour, it is like a dream come true for me to receive it,” Mohammed Shami told ANI.
