NZ Keep Kane Williamson In World Cup Plans Despite Uncertainty
STAR New Zealand player Kane Williamson is on his road to recovery and is optimistic about getting fit for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 set to be held in India in October-November this year.
As per a report from Stuff NZ, Kane Williamson will undoubtedly be in New Zealand's plan for the World Cup even if he misses a couple of games at the beginning of the tournament. The batter has joined the Black Caps for practice and is progressing really well in his rehab.
Tom Latham will lead an experienced ODI squad against England this September, the team’s penultimate series before the ICC Cricket World Cup starting in October in India.
Kane Williamson will link up with the side during the England tour to train and continue his rehabilitation following surgery on his ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in April.
Kane Williamson Gives Update On ODI World Cup Plans
"To be at the World Cup is always special. It's still just guesswork at the moment in terms of when the day is or how it's tracking at the time," Williamson said speaking to the reporters at the Bay Oval.
"There's a lot of work to do. I am just really following the programme, with the professionals for physio, the support staff, and New Zealand Cricket. And it's tough, because you do have some good days, and then you have a few variable ones," he added.
Williamson also said how the World Cup being around the corner has been a tremendous motivation for him on his road to recovery.
"Something like that [World Cup] in the back of your mind is obviously motivating and you want to keep seeing those improvements," Williamson said
