New Zealand captain Ross Taylor won the toss and elected to bat against Sri Lanka in their first Test match at the Galle International Stadium on Saturday.
New Zealand have had a disastrous run in the sub-continent this year losing series against India and Bangladesh.
Much would be expected from skipper Ross Taylor in order to help Kiwis salvage some pride.
Rangana Herath and Suraj Randiv will lead the Sri Lankan bowling attack as the hosts would be banking on their spinners to trouble the visitors.
Teams:
Sri Lanka: Tharanga Paranavitana, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene (c), Thilan Samaraweera, Angelo Mathews, Prasanna Jayawardene (wk), Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath, Suraj Randiv, Shaminda Eranga.
New Zealand: Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson, Brendon McCullum, Ross Taylor (c), Kruger van Wyk (wk), James Franklin, Daniel Flynn, Jeetan Patel, Tim Southee, Doug Bracewell, Trent Boult.
