The pavillion at the Hagley Oval, Christchurh was inaugurated on Monday in the presence of dignitaries. New Zealand Prime Minister John Key and Member of Parliament Amy Adams opened the pavillion at the Hagley Oval. Sir Richard Hadlee, the New Zealand cricket legend was also present on the occasion.

The Hagley Oval will host the Boxing Day Test against Sri Lanka. It will also host a One-Day International (ODI) against the same opposition leading up to the ICC World Cup 2015. The ground hosted its first international game during the ICC World Cup Qualifiers earlier this year.

The ground will also host three matches at the ICC World Cup 2015. New Zealand will face Sri Lanka on February 14, 2014, the opening day of the tournament. Pakistan and West Indies would then play each other on February 21. The third game would be between England and Scotland on February 23.
