The offspinner Dilruwan Perera has become only the fourth Sri Lankan bowler to the landmark of 150 wickets in Test cricket, scalping Tim Southee to reach the milestone one day of the Boxing Day Test against New Zealand in Christchurch.

Perera claimed his 150th wicket in his 36th Test match, joining Muttiah Muralitharan (795), Rangana Herath (433) and Chaminda Vaas (355) as the only Sri Lankans with 150 wickets or more.

Perera’s 150 wickets have come at an average of just under 32 and a strike-rate of 59.9.

Southee clubbed six fours and three sixes for a breezy 65-ball 68 that helped haul New Zealand from 64/6 to 172/7 before he was dismissed courtesy a stunning catch from Dhanushka Gunathilika at short midwicket off Perera. (ALSO READ: LIVE SCORECARD: NZ vs SL, 2nd TEST)

Perera, 36, made his Test debut against Pakistan in Sharjah in 2014, scoring 95 in his first innings and claiming a solitary wicket. With Herath – who retired a few months ago – he proved a formidable spin-bowling combination, the pair accounting for 295 wickets in 28 Tests together.
