NZ's first series win against major Test team in 12 years
Trent Boult (left) was a revelation for New Zeland © Getty Images (File Photo)[/caption] Jul 1, 2014 New Zealand have beaten West Indies in the third and final Test by 53 runs in Barbados to take the series 2-1 and with that win they have won their first Test series away from home against a major Test team (barring Bangladesh and Zimbabwe) for the first time in 12 years. Incidentally, their last away win, which was way back in 2002, also came in the Caribbean, thanks to the heroics of Scott Styris. This series has been all about team work than an individual driving a team to victory and the Black Caps look every inch like a team on the ascendency in the International Cricket Council (ICC). Trent Boult and Tim Southee have been immense for the Kiwis with their early breakthroughs. Southee stands out for the swing and accuracy that put the hosts on tenterhooks for the better part of the series. In Mark Craig, New Zealand have found a long term successor to Daniel Vettori. Craig has pulled off a couple of rescue acts with the bat too and lent solidity and steel down the order. Kane Wiliamson will look back at this series as a step up to the big league. In the recent past, the former New Zealand Under-19 captain's important knocks have more often than not resulted in victories and has laid a solid platform to be an all-time Kiwi great. New Zealand's work since 2013 suggests a change in attitude and a desire to take on the top echelons and beat them. This series has gone a long way in establishing that and promises more in the future.
