Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK), after much fanfare, were drafted into the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the 2011 season. The side will go down in history as a blink-and-miss team that played just one edition, finishing with the dubious distinction of fishing with the wooden spoon. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) just after the completion of IPL terminated KTK for breach of contract. Since that notice, both KTK owners and the BCCI have been at loggerheads in High Court. It was just last week at the BCCI SGM that acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary announced to the board that KTK had won an arbitration proceedings against the BCCI and they have to shell out Rs 1,080 crore.

Choudhary stated that the BCCI could be after an out-of-court settlement with KTK in order to not pay the hefty fine imposed against them by court. “The general body is aware of the matter and we will decide our next course of action accordingly,” Choudhary said to Indian Express. On the other hand, KTK are looking to get reinstated in the IPL 2018 season and comeback with a bang in India’s premier domestic T20 league. It was only last week that KTK co-owners met with the Supreme Court  committee of administrators (CoA), which then advised KTK to take a formal approach to all this with the BCCI.

A source in the BCCI on the KTK issue said, “There is no chance of giving them their place back in the IPL. They want the team because they then want to sell it? The only way out for them is to accept the one-time final settlement and put the issue to rest.”
