All-rounder, Mitchell Marsh was on Tuesday replaced by left-arm spinner, Xavier Doherty for the three-match ODI series against Pakistan in United Arab Emirates (UAE). Marsh was ruled out of the series following a hamstring injury, said Cricket Australia.
Australia had great success with the spin in Dubai as they beat Pakistan in the sole T20 on Sunday. Owing to this, Australia quickly included another spinner in the form of Doherty from Tasmania. Although he would miss the first ODI scheduled on Tuesday at Sharjah, he would surely be able to play the 2nd ODI scheduled on Friday in Dubai, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.
“The pitch on Sunday night during the T20 International turned significantly and there is a strong chance we will encounter these conditions during the rest of this series. As such, we have elected to bring Xavier over to Dubai as an extra spinning option,” national selector Rod Marsh said in a CA statement.
