Pakistan’s team director, Mickey Arthur revealed the strategy of the Pakistan Cricket Board for the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup which is set to be played later this year.
Arthur also revealed about the squad saying that Pakistan will not make any big change as they will go with the ODI squad which was played against New Zealand earlier this year.
“We picked a squad that played against New Zealand. That is the squad we are going to draw from [for Asia Cup and World Cup]. Haris Sohail was in that squad but he didn’t play because of fitness issues.
A couple of those guys have put their names up lately, but the squad we had for New Zealand series and the squad that will go for these events wont differ much,” said Arthur
Arthur stated that Pakistan has around 20 players which will be trimmed it to 15. “We had around 20 players in that series, we just need to cut it to 15. It is not going to differ much because I believe in giving security to players as that will give clarity to them about their roles in the team. I don’t want players playing with an axe over their head or with insecurity about their place,” he added.
Amid the chaos over the venues for World Cup and Asia Cup the Pakistan director said that the team is good enough to beat any team anywhere and he is really satisfied with the venues.
“We don’t have any issues related to venues. We have got good enough squad to beat any team anywhere. I am really satisfied with the venues,” he said.
Zaka Ashraf To Ask Neutral Venue For Pakistan’s World Cup Matches
Acting chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Zaka Ashraf, is expected to push for Pakistan’s World Cup matches to be held at neutral venues at the ICC meetings in Durban.
Ahsan Mazari, the Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordinator (Sports), said, “Zaka Ashraf will bring up the issue of why can’t Pakistan’s matches in the World Cup be played at neutral venues when the Indian team can’t travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup.”
India had earlier refused to play their Asia Cup matches in Pakistan owing to geopolitical tensions between the two countries. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had agreed to a hybrid model with Pakistan and Sri Lanka as co-hosts and India playing their matches in Sri Lanka.
