Poonam Yadav spun India Women to an 11-run victory over Sri Lanka Women at Free Trade Zone Sports Complex, Katunayake to put her team 1-0 up in the ongoing T20 Internationals series. Yadav finished with 4 for 26. Her final wicket, that of Sripali Weerakkody, was also a record-breaking one: Yadav now has 56 T20I wickets, the most among Indians.
Yadav went past the previous record of 56, held by Jhulan Goswami, who had announced her retirement from the shortest format just ahead of the ongoing tour. Ekta Bisht (50) is the only other Indian to have taken fifty T20I wickets. Yadav’s teammate Anuja Patil (34) is the next name on the list.
In the overall list, however, Yadav is at joint 16th, tied with Shashikala Siriwardene (of Sri Lanka, whom Yadav bowled today to level Goswami) and Sadia Yousuf (Pakistan). Anisa Mohammed (West Indies) leads the chart with 107 wickets, a whopping 23 wickets ahead of both Danielle Hazell (England) and Ellyse Perry (Australia).
