OUT OF favour India batter Prithvi Shaw shattered records as he smashed a magnificent double century in the Royal One Day Cup on August 9. Shaw became only the third batter in the tournament's history to smash a double ton.

The swashbuckling batter also surpassed Ollie Robinson's (206) record for the highest individual score in the tournament. Playing for Northamptonshire, Shaw smashed Somerset bowlers to all corners of the park, racing his way to a 153 ball 244. Shaw's inning was studded with 28 fours and 11 sixes.

This was Prithvi Shaw's second double-century in List-A cricket. The Mumbai batter's previous double hundred came in the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he struck an unbeaten 227 for Mumbai against Puducherry.

The dashing opener is only behind India captain Rohit Sharma in the list of Indian batters with the most double centuries in List A cricket. He is also the fourth batter to score multiple double tons in List A cricket. Ali Brown and Travis Head are other batters who have scored two double centuries in List A cricket.

Prithvi Shaw burst onto the scene with a lot of promise but he failed to turn potential into performance and lost his place in the Indian team after a string of low scores. Shaw last played for India in July 2021. In IPL 2023, he could only muster 106 runs in eight innings for Delhi Capitals after which he was dropped from the team. Shaw has fallen behind the pack in terms of India call-up but performances like these will help him get back into the reckoning.
