Chennai: June 11, 2012

A State cricketer from Tamil Nadu committed suicide by hanging in his house Sunday.

PK Dharma played for Globe Trotters at Chepauk on Saturday against Vijay CC in the three-day TNCA senior division league final only to emerge on the losing side.

“There were no signs of anything wrong. The way he was shaping I thought he was on track to becoming mainstay of TN Ranji team,” Globe Trotters skipper S Sriram was quoted saying by the Deccan Chronicle.

“Hard to digest the fact that he is no more. There were no sings of anything wrong with him during the final.

“He competed well and with the way he was shaping I thought he was on track to becoming a mainstay in the Ranji trophy team in a few years time.”

The death of young all-rounder engulfed the city cricketing fraternity in sorrow.

Turning out for Globe Trotters (MRF), the 21-year-old showed a big heart while operating under the harsh sun and held his own even against the likes of Rahul Dravid and S. Badrinath of Vijay CC (India Cements).

Dharma who has represented Tamil Nadu in the national one-day tournament (Vijay Hazare Trophy) was seen as a player with immense potential.

MRF Pace foundation’s chief coach M Senthilnathan who had a major role to play in shaping the career of Dharma said: “There was no hint of the drastic step he was to take during the final. He played hard and was his usual self.
