Newcomers in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018, Multan Sultans registered their second consecutive win in the tournament to top the points table. In a one-sided affair, Sultans beat Lahore Qalandars by 43 runs. It was combined effort by Imran Tahir and Junaid Khan, who claimed 6 wickets between them to down Qalandars for 136, chasing 180 to win. Junaid went on to pick up his first PSL hat-trick as well; second overall.
Qalandars innings never got off to a steady start, they kept on losing players at regular intervals. Farkhar Zaman and Umar Akmal made sizeable contributions, making 49 and 31 respectively. Tahir claimed key wickets in the middle overs, while Junaid wrapped up the tail in no time. There were as many as 4 ducks in Lahore’s innings, including skipper Brendon McCullum.
Batting first, it was once against Kumar Sangakkara and Shoaib Malik, who stood tall. Sangakkara, fresh from his stint in Hong Kong T20 Blitz, struck a 44-ball 63, while Malik made a quick-fire 48. Ahmed Shehzad, too made a 33-ball 38. Mustafizur Rahman remained Lahore’s most successful bowler with figures of 2 for 22.
