Ranji Trophy 2013-14 Final, Day 1 Live Cricket Score: Ankit Bawne leads the way for Maharashtra

STUMPS DAY 1: MAH 272/5 | Overs 90 | Bawne 89(172), Atitkar 29(66)
At the end of Day One, Maharashtra will be happy after they kept losing at regular intervals. But their innings was held together by Ankit Bawne’s unbeaten 89. He showed enormous patience to stay put and see his team through the day. Bawne faced 172 deliveries and is ably supported by Sangram Atitkar who has looked good right from the start.

Excellent partnership developing here between Bawne and Atitkar. While Bawne is the well-set batsman, Atitkar has looked like he has been practicing for a hours before coming in to bat. Has looked solid, no half-hearted shots. The only trouble was when the new ball was taken and Atitkar almost chopped it back on to his stumps.

Despite losing wickets after regular intervals, it is the in-form batting line-up of Maharashtra have contributed well to keep them afloat. Bawne is still intact and steady inching towards a hundred while Atitkar has played some classy shots establishing his dominance.

Breakthrough for Karnataka in the 73rd over. Abhimany Mithun comes back in to the attack and Rohit Motwani is caught behind prodding at a delivery pitched fairly outside off. This has been Maharashtra’s story since morning; conceding wickets to Maharashtra.

The batsmen have tired out the bowlers. They are not worried about run-scoring and have focused on cementing their stay at the crease with solid defense. Karnataka probably missing their strike bowler HS Sharath.

A fine half-century for Ankit Bawne. Along with Rohit Motwani he has kept Maharashtra’s hopes alive with that unbeaten partnership at tea. The run-scoring has improved a touch with 100 being scored in 33 overs.

Disciplined performance from the bowlers in the last few overs, but the batsmen are up to the task. Bawne is inching closer to his half-century. Another good partnership building here, but it will depend on how long they are able to sustain it.

After Khurana’s dismissal, Bawne has taken some charge. He punishes Karun Nair for some sloppy bowling hitting back to back boundaries and collecting the singles and twos with ease. Maharashtra have a long way to go. The itch has nothing much to trouble. The batsmen have given their wicket away to poor shots. Vinay Kumar has reduced his impact of bouncing the ball on the pitch. It’s a lifeless pitch with little bounce.

Poor shot from Chirag Khurana. The bowl delivered round the wicket kept low and Khurana tried to sweep at it. Theball hit him low on the pads and could have gone on to hit the off stump. A solid start gone begging, Khurana had a century of the offering here looking at the easy pitch. Skipper Rohit Motwani is the new batsman for Maharashtra.

This partnership is blossoming with a well-deserved fifty for Chirag Khurana. Patient and matured innings from the youngster. Reminds you of Shitanshu Kotak, grinding the opposition down. Has played cautiously all along and now taking the lead on scoring. After Kedar Jadhav’s dismissal, it’s the onus on the set pair to make the starts count. There’s no demons in the pitch. Shreyas Gopal is getting some assistance from the pitch. Had Khurana edging one to slips but survives.

Khurana has finally startedto play his shots. They started off cautiously after lunch and accelerated. Khurana has started to play his drives. Got a few boundaries off Sreenath Aravind and has moved closer to a well-deserved fifty.

Arvind starts the post lunch session with his pace bowling. Khurana and Bawne are least interested in going for their shots. Happy to play out defensively. Vinay Kumar is not on the field. CM Gautam is leading the side.

Karnataka will be the happy team going in to lunch. They have managed to dismissed the in-form batsman Kedar Jadhav. The most unfortunate way you can get out when in form is caught down the leg-side. Mithun was wayward and Jadhav tried to get a touch to that delivery and instead ended up edging it to wicketkeeper Gautam.

Vinay Kumar and leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal are bowling in tandem. A small partnership growing between Jadhav and Khurana. Jadhav has looked composed and played his shots with exceptional timing. In the 27th over, Jadhav showed his abilities hitting three consecutive boundaries. The first one was short and wide and was there to be hit, the next one was nothing more than a defensive push and the timing was enough to take it to the boundary. The third was flicked through mid-on for the another boundary. Meanwhile, Khurana is steady anchoring from the other end.

Kedar Jadhav is slowly coming in to his true colours. In the 21st over, Jadhav just punches the ball through mid-off and the ball races away to the boundary, he follows it up with an on-drive and gets four more. After the initial nervousness, the Maharashtra scoreboard has started to move ahead with Khurana already settled in. The duo would be keen to hang around till the lunch and start fresh.

Sreenath Aravind gets the reward for his persistence. Vijay Zol pokes one at the ball was moving away from him and is caught behind. Poor footwork, he was nowhere close to the ball. Another big wicket for Karnataka. Kedar Jadhav, the key batsman for Maharashtra walks in. Mithun tests Khurana with a straighter one and it was a close leg-before appeal, umpire Shamshuddin turns it down.

Since the wicket of Khadiwale, Maharashtra have looked cautious. Vinay Kumar brings in Manish Pandey to bowl an over to allow a change of ends for Sreenath Aravind, Arvind gets the ball to move away from Chirag Khurana and he was in some trouble. Pandey in slips was eager to take that catch and floored it. Reprieve for Khurana. Abhimanyu Mithun comes in from the other end

Big wicket for Karnataka, Khadiwale is out leg before for 15. It moved in to Khadiwale and held its line. Brilliant bowling from skipper Vinay Kumar and gets the first breakthrough. Khadiwale was batting well but was in some sense of discomfort in that over. Kumar makes the bowling change and brings Sreenath Aravind in place of Mithun. He has Khurana in some trouble appealing for a leg-before but no harm done. Lhurana on-drives the last ball of the over for a boundary.
MAH 23/0 | Overs 8 | Khadiwale 15(29), Khurana 6(21)
The batsmen are looking settled with Khadiwale and Khurana attempting most of the deliveries. The first ball of the sixth over from Mithun was hits straight back by Khadiwale for a boundary. He follows it up with another boundary in the eighth over. Looks set for a big innings here.

Good start from Maharashtra. Vinay Kumar started the bowling and was on target. However, Abhimanyu Mithun needs to get his rhythm in place, started off with a huge no-ball. Mithun known for his ability to bring the ball in did so on a few occasions but the batsmen had no trouble dealing with it. Not much swing for the bowlers.
The first boundary comes in the fourth over with a sweetly-timed cover-drive from Khadiwale. Was in complete control of the shot. Khadiwale has retained most of the strike.
Maharashtra have won the toss and elected to bat in the Ranji Trophy 2013-14 Final. The pitch is dry and as expected, the plenty of runs on offer. Maharashtra will be happy to have won the toss and pile on runs with their batsmen in form.

Hello and welcome to the live updates of the Ranji Trophy 2013-14 Final. I am Abhijit Banare and I will be bringing you the live updates of the match. Coming from the Group C, Maharashtra weren’t looked upon as serious contenders, but that didn’t deter this team with immense self-belief coached by Surendra Bhave. It has been an all-round team work especially with the batsmen in full form. The top two in the run-scoring list this season are from Maharashtra — Kedar Jadhav and Harshad Khadiwale. For Karnataka Lokesh Rahul is third on the list. On the bowling front, none from both teams feature in the top five, but the form is clearly in Maharashtra’s favour with Samad Fallah and Anupam Sanklecha firing in the knockouts. Sanklecha punched Mumbai out while Fallah floored Bengal.
For Karnataka it will be Vinay Kumar who will lead the pace attack. While Lokesh has been the leading scorer, the momentum is with Karun Nair after that fighting hundred against Punjab on a seaming track.
