Meghalaya had started the day 294/5 and would have eyed a total near about 400, but the hopes were dashed by Dhapola as he removed well set Gurinder Singh for 23 in the second over of the day followed by the wickets of Abhay Negi (11), Wanlambok Nongkhlaw (3), Dipu Sangma (0) and Chengkam Sangma (1).

In reply, Uttarakhand openers – Karanveer Kaushal, back after missing the previous game owing to a shoulder niggle – and veteran Vineet Saxena added 45 runs for the first wicket before Kaushal was removed by Dipu Sangam for 24. Sangam then dealt a big blow by removing previous match’s double centurion Kartik Joshi for 6. Vaibhav Panwar was the next to depart for 1 to Swarajeet Das and with the wicket of Saurabh Rawat for 20 taken by Gurinder, Uttarakhand found themselves in trouble for the first time this season.

But the experienced duo of Saxena and skipper Rajat Bhatia brought their team back with an unbroken stand of 83 runs for the fifth wicket, helping Uttarakhand to 175/4 at close of play, trailing Meghalaya by 136 runs. Saxena is unbeaten on 63 off 201 balls while Bhatia has so far added 54 off 105 balls.

Brief Scores: Uttarakhand 175/4 (Vineet Saxena 62*, Rajat Bhatia 54*; Dipu Sagma 2/26) trail Meghalaya 311 (Puneet Bisht 154, Yogesh Nagar 91; Deepak Dhapola 6/52) by 136 runs
