Ranji Trophy 2024: Prithvi Shaw silences critics with spectacular 159-run knock against Chattisgarh

Prithvi Shaw made a century in the Ranji Trophy match against Chhattisgarh on Friday at Raipur’s Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. Shaw has been out of competitive cricket for some months owing to a knee injury sustained during his county tenure with Northamptonshire last year. The Mumbaikar had to endure knee surgery, followed by a rigorous recuperation period.
He had an off-day in his first match following his comeback, scoring only 35 runs off 42 balls against Bengal, although Mumbai won by an innings and four runs.
Shaw made a significant statement in his second innings after scoring a superb century in the Ranji Trophy match.
The 24-year-old hit 159 runs off 185 balls, including 18 fours and three sixes.It was laced with 18 fours and three sixes. Vishvash Malik ended his stint in the middle but it was too late as the Mumbaikar had already done significant damage to Chhattisgarh.
Shaw’s cricketing brilliance after injury
He and Bhupen Lalwani compiled a 244-run opening partnership to help Mumbai seal their victory over Chhattisgarh.
The 24-year-old has already missed two white-ball domestic tournaments: the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Before his injury, he had mixed performance with the bat. He scored 595 runs in 10 innings during the previous Ranji Trophy season, including a record 379 runs off 383 balls against Assam. However, his inconsistency bothered him, and it finally manifested in the IPL as well.
Shaw was in spectacular form for the English county before his injury. He scored 429 runs in four innings, including a record-breaking 244 off 153 balls against Somerset. He damaged his knee while fielding in the encounter against Durham, cutting short his tenure.
