In the Ranji Trophy final on Tuesday, Musheer Khan surpassed Sachin Tendulkar to become the youngest Mumbai batsman to score a ton, hitting a 255-ball century at the Wankhede Stadium against Vidarbha.

Mumbai, having gained a 119-run lead in the first innings, elected to bat again on Day 2. Prithvi Shaw and Bhupen Lelwani, the openers, fell early, and Musheer and captain Ajinkya Rahane braved a top-order wobble. After each of them secured their half-centuries, the score was raised to 141 for two over night.

When play resumed on Day 3, number three Musheer continued to amass runs alongside Shreyas Iyer following Rahane’s 73-run dismissal. In the ninetieth over, Musheer scored his second First-Class century in three games. Musheer, the younger brother of Indian batter Sarfaraz Khan, turned his first-ever First-Class century into a double hundred during the quarterfinal match against Baroda. After Wasim Jaffer, he became the second-youngest batter from Mumbai to accomplish the accomplishment.

Musheer, who is 19 years and 14 days old, has now eclipsed Tendulkar’s record to become the youngest Mumbai hitter to score 100 in the Ranji final. Tendulkar led the club to yet another title in the 1994–95 season final against Punjab, where he produced twin hundreds just one month shy of turning 22. Tendulkar, incidentally, attended the day’s play at the Wankhede from the stands.
