Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan have been the best of the buddies in international cricket. They have shared a lot in common over the years they played together. Both were born in the same year of 1978 and same month of October. Both made their First-Class debuts almost around the same time and even broke into the international scene more or less around the same time. Both were Sourav Ganguly’s protégés and both went on to play for Team India for over a decade. Interestingly, both announced their retirements around their birthdays in the same year 2015 and both took to Twitter to break the news.

It is in the years that they played together for India that they forged a strong bond of friendship, which they continue even after their retirements. Recently, both are involved with the commentary assignment for the IndiaNew Zealand Test series. People are loving them in this new role too. While Sehwag is the notorious of the two and often uses puns and humour to keep forth his point, Zaheer is the cool, calm and composed customer. People appreciate their union in the commentary box.

October 7 happens to be Zaheer’s birthday and Sehwag gifted his friend in his own trademark style, thus adding him in his longs list of Twitter victims. Sehwag called Zaheer a ‘Gyaan Baba’ and an ‘asli heera’, which when translated mean a philosopher and pure diamond. Here’s what he wrote to his over 7 million followers:

Zaheer is yet to reply to his good old friend. In the past, while most of the cricketers and celebrities who have been on Sehwag’s receiving end have either ignored his wish, thanked him accepting his humour filled wish graciously, or given him a dose of his own medicine (Bishan Singh Bedi). It will be interesting to see which way does Zaheer go.
