Scotland target Full-Member status after trouncing Oman

Scotland skipper Kyle Coetzer said that his team continues its march to gain a Full-Member status following their dominating win over Oman.

Fresh from their dominating win over Oman, where the Oman side was bowled out for the fourth lowest total (24) in List A cricket at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground Oman Cricket (Ministry Turf 1)., Scotland skipper Kyle Coetzer said that his team continues its march to gain a Full-Member status.

Ruaidhri Smith (4/7) and Adrian Neill (4/7) scalped four wickets each, Alasdair Evans (2/10) struck twice as Scotland bundled out Oman for 24 runs in 17.1 overs. (ALSO READ: Scotland bowl out Oman for fourth-lowest total in List A history)

Scotland, who had recently beaten Ireland on the way to clinch the Oman Quadrangular T20I Series title, won their fourth game against a Full-Member side after beating Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and England since June 2017 in limited-overs internationals.

“We want to use this tour, it’s a platform to get our 2019 campaign off to a start, and I guess coming out on top in this (T20I) series is a real positive for that,” Coetzer told ESPNcricinfo.

“More importantly, the guys have got some valuable cricket in their legs especially in the T20 format, which is going to be so important moving through the year,” he added.

While Scotland are scheduled to play 50-overs cricket in the first half of this year, their skipper thought that it will be a good opportunity to build a side which can beat another big teams at the T20 World Cup qualifier scheduled for October.

Coetzer, meanwhile, lauded interim coach Toby Bailey for his team’s sustained momentum. (ALSO READ: Scotland appoint Shane Burger as head coach)

“We’re very lucky to have Toby in our ranks,” Coetzer said before adding, “He’s stepped into the role and done a fantastic job and certainly progressed us from where we were and I’m sure he’ll play a huge part for us in the future still.”

The 34-year-old was also wholesome in his praise for his bowling unit, which he said is talent-wise at its best since his first Intercontinental Cup game in 2004 against Kenya.

“We’re very lucky at the moment with the seam options we have,” Coetzer said.

“We’ve got guys banging on the door to try and play. There’s a couple of people that haven’t made this tour and they’ll certainly be champing at the bit to make the next tour. I would say it’s certainly not a position that we’ve been in very often over the last 15 years and I’d be surprised if there is any team in our position within the Associate ranks who have had that amount of armory at their disposal,” concluded Coetzer.
