STAR Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has replaced Tamim Iqbal as the new ODI captain of Bangladesh. He will be leading the team in the upcoming editions of the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup 2023.
With just over two months left for the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup, veteran left-handed opener Tamim Iqbal decided to step down as Bangladesh’s ODI captain and will miss the upcoming Asia Cup due to a back injury.
Tamim Iqbal came back from England after getting his disc problem treated. He took multiple injections there as an immediate remedy to heal the damaged disc between L4 and L5.
Currently, Tamim has been told to stay on complete rest before starting his rehab process. However, despite the treatment Board has most probably decided to provide the player with enough rest for him to be ready for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.
“If there is no pain, he should be able to start the rehabilitation after one week and he will increase the intensity of his workload slowly. He will understand where he (Tamim) stands when he gets closer to the high-intensity workload and see whether that pain is coming back or not,” said a BCB official following Tamim’s return to the nation.
Shakib Al Hasan Replaces Tamim Iqbal
Shakib al Hasan is currently leading Bangladesh in T20Is and Tests and has also led the team previously in the ODI including the 50-over World Cup back in 2011.

BCB has picked Shakib-al-Hasan as the experience was a major factor in the minds of selectors. The veteran has more than enough experience in leading his nation in such competitions. Litton Das was another name in the race for this post. However, the board went with Shakib in the end.
