A healthy partnership between Shakib Al Hasan and Brendon McCullum helped Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) set a target of 137 runs for the home team Pune Warriors India (PWI) in the 70th Indian Premier League (IPL) 2012 match at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir made a slow start. He was dismissed in the fifth over by Wayne Parnell for 10 runs.
All-rounder Jacques Kallis was the next batsman to be dismissed as he was bowled by Michael Clarke, who returned to the team after his wedding in Australia, for 13 runs.
Brendon and all-rounder Shakib then consolidated the innings with a partnership in the middle overs. Both added 67 runs for the third wicket before McCullum was dismissed in the 17th over by Parnell who claimed his second wicket.
Shakib too departed in death overs while attempting to accelerate. He departed after scoring 42 runs.
