Shaun Marsh eyes strong comeback after disastrous show in India Test series

Australia middle-order batsman Shaun Marsh on Wednesday said he is expecting to make a strong comeback after a disastrous Test series against India at home.

“I just went out there with a clear mind and tried to be positive. I thought I was a bit tentative during the Test series. Things were just building up inside me…,” Marsh said.

“I`ve decided if the ball is in my area I am going to attack it pretty hard. It`s been a tough and challenging six weeks for me. It was nice to get a few runs and hopefully I can build on that,” he was quoted as saying by news.com.au.

The left-handed batsman had a good outing as he scored a fluent 79 for Western Australia against Queensland after being ruled out of the tri-series against India and Sri Lanka.

Earlier, Australia captain Michael Clarke called out-of-form batsman Shaun Marsh as the only weak link in his triumphant Test unit and has put the left-handed batsman on notice to perform.

“I do see him as a big part of the Australian team in all three forms going forward but he does need to continue to make runs,” Clarke was quoted saying by the Herald Sun.

Marsh, who scored a ton (141) on debut against Sri Lanka at Pallekele in September last year, failed miserably with just 17 runs at a dismal 2.83 average with three ducks this series.

“If he gets the opportunity to play for Australia in the short form or goes back to Western Australia he has to keep working hard, put some runs on the board. He needs to spend some time in the middle to get his confidence back up,” noted Clarke.
