FORMER India cricketer Virender Sehwag made a hilarious comment on Sourav Ganguly’s famous shirtless celebration in the Natwest final in 2002. India pulled off a remarkable win over England in a tall chase of 325 after which Ganguly went berserk and removed his shirt, swirling it in the air from the Lord’s balcony.
Sehwag hilariously said that Ganguly removed his shirt so that he can get undergarments endorsements. However, the veteran clarified that Ganguly’s act was in response to Andrew Flintoff’s shirtless celebration in Mumbai.

“Dada celebrated without his shirt because he wanted an endorsement deal from an undergarments brand.” Sehwag joked while speaking at the launch of former BCCI General Manager Amrit Mathur’s book: “Pitchside: My life in Indian cricket.”
“He wanted to give a befitting reply to Flintoff who did the same in Mumbai,” Sehwag added.
The 2002 Natwest win will go down as one of India’s best wins overseas. Chasing a target of 325, Sehwag and Ganguly gave India a fiery start but the team was reduced to 146/5. A 121-run partnership between Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh got India back in the game. Even though Yuvi got out, Kaif along with Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan took India home.

Sehwag also shed light on another hilarious incident involving Ganguly in the 2003 World Cup.

“After a bad start to the 2003 World Cup our coach John Wright asked who should open. We all got together and wrote our suggestions. Out of the 11 chits only one had ‘Saurav-Sachin’ written on it. Only Saurav Ganguly only wrote his name on his chit. Everyone else wrote mine and Sachin’s name. Since then Sachin and I started opening and Dada very graciously came in at no.3,” he said.
