South Africa‘s mainstay, Faf du Plessis, will achieve a landmark when he takes on the field for his nation against Sri Lanka in the ongoing five One-Day International (ODI) series. Du Plessis will be featuring in his 100th ODI and want to make the most of the occasion by nailing the five-match series against the tourists. Currently, hosts lead the series 2-0 with three more games to go. On this special occasion for the recently-appointed Test skipper, Cricket South Africa’s official social media handles shared a video wherein his teammates poured their wishes and complimented the 32-year-old. Proteas’ ODI skipper, AB de Villiers, started the one-and-a-half minute long video reminding everyone of the special day for his teammate, who also happens to be his childhood friend. Several other key players like Hashim Amla, JP Duminy, Kagiso Rabada and wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock spoke about du Plessis’ contributions as an ODI player and character on and off the field. He has been a core member of the limited-overs side since 2011 and has been an integral part of the last two editions of ICC Cricket World Cup. In 99 matches, he has amassed 3,514 runs at a staggering average of 42.33. The right-hander has 7 hundreds (with the last one coming in the 2nd ODI versus Sri Lanka) and 24 fifties under his belt. His highest score is 133 not out, which came in a winning cause against India in 2015. He was assigned with Test captaincy in 2016 after de Villiers left the top job due to injury. Despite tasting success in whites as leader, he also led his side to a memorable 5-0 whitewash against Australia in 2016.
