I am Sakshi Gupta and I will be bringing you live updates from the day’s play. Australia have taken control of the match early and will be looking to wipe out the deficit. Of They will also look to establish a significant lead the end of Day 2. Sri Lanka were bundled out for just 117 in their first innings within 35 overs. Australia lost their openers early, but Usman Khawaja and skipper Steven Smith have ensured that there are no more hiccups from there on. Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon picked up three wickets apiece. For Sri Lanka, Nuwan Pradeep and Rangana Herath picked up one wicket each. Rain had stopped Australia’s charge on Day 1. They will hope that rain does not play a significant role on the second day. Australia have the likes of Adam Voges, Mitchell Marsh and Peter Nevill to follow. Sri Lanka are playing three spinners in this match and they will be crucial in ensuring that Australia do not get a big lead on the board.
After much of discussion, David Warner was declared fit for this match, but sadly for him he was dismissed for a duck. His opening partner Joe Burns to was back in the hut for soon and Australia were reduced to 7 for 2 at within four overs. That was the final wicket of the day. Smith and Khawaja have built a solid unbeaten 59-run stand since then. Both of them have been in terrific form of late and will look to get a big score in this match as well.
