Offspinner Dilruwan Perera has been added to the Sri Lanka squad for the second and final Test against New Zealand which begins in Colombo on August 22 (Thursday). The 37-year-old had missed the series opener in Galle due to injury, but his addition will boost the spin department.

With Akila Dananjaya reported for a suspect action, doubts remain over his availability for the second Test and therefore Dilruwan’s return becomes a timely one. If the senior pro does get to play, then Lasith Embuldeniya will have to sit out.

Dilruwan, who made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2014, had a forgettable time while on tour to New Zealand and Australia. He snapped just six wickets despite bowling a cumulative of approximately 165 overs through four Tests. His last Test appearance was against Australia at Canberra where he returned wicket-less.
