ENGLAND pacer Stuart Broad announced his retirement from cricket on Saturday. Broad confirmed that the ongoing fifth Ashes Test will be his last. When Broad came out to bat on Day 4 of the Test, the Australian team gave him a well-deserved guard of honour.
Broad walked out to bat with his partner in crime, fellow pacer James Anderson to extend England’s lead. The fast bowler remained not out on Day 3, with England ending the day at 389-8, leading Australia by 377 runs.
Australia took just 11 balls to dismiss James Anderson as England’s inning folded on 395, giving Australia a target of 384 runs to win.

The pacer is one of the greatest ever to step on a cricket field. In a career that lasted 17 years, Broad took 602 wickets in 167 Tests. He is only the second pacer after James Anderson (690) to take more than 600 wickets.
Along with 602 Test wickets, Broad has taken 178 ODI wickets in 121 games and 65 T20I wickets in 56 matches. Broad will be eyeing a few more wickets and lead England to a series-leveling win in the 5th Test when Australia come out to chase the huge score.

Stuart Broad revealed he was thinking about retirement for a few weeks and finally made up his mind after the end of Day 2. The pacer confirmed that Ben Stokes was the first teammate to whom he broke the news.
