Syed Kirmani nominated for Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award 2015

The Cricket Centre, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) – Mumbai, unanimously nominated Syed Kirmani for the Col. CK Nayudu Committee Lifetime Achievement Award 2015. The committee consists of BCCI President Mr. Shashank Manohar, Hon. Secretary Mr. Anurag Thakur and Mr. N Ram, Editor- The Hindu. The BCCI celebrates the birth centenary of Col. Cottari Kanakaiya Nayudu, the country’s first Test captain, by nominating individuals for their unparalleled contribution to India cricket, on and off field by giving away the annual Lifetime Achievement Award. The award comprises of a trophy, citation and cheque worth Rs 25 lakhs. Syed Kirmani’s Test debut was in January 1976 against New Zealand and his One-Day International (ODI) was on February 1976 against New Zealand. Having started his career as an understudy, Kirmani took over the responsibility and added his charm to the role in a decade-long career. Thanks to his remarkable performance, he scored two Test centuries being lower in the order. He did not concede a single bye in three consecutive Tests against England in 1981-82. In 1983 World Cup, Kirmani shared an unbeaten 126 runs partnership with Kapil Dev against Zimbabwe. ALSO READ: Syed Kirmani wins CEAT Lifetime Achievement award

Kirmani and Sunil Gavaskar’s 143 runs partnership at the ninth wicket against West Indies in the sixth Test at home was another milestone in his career. He was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1982. He was the chairman of the Karnataka Cricket State Association and the chairman of national selection committee. Previously, this award has been won by some of the legends of Indian cricket like Lala Amarnath, Syed Mushtaq Ali, Capt. Vijay Hazare, Subhash Gupte, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, Chandrakant Borde, Nariman Contractor, Gundappa Vishwanath, Mohinder Amarnath, Ajit Wadekar, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and Dilip Vengsarkar.
