Hyderabad finally got off the mark with their first win of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 in Group E in their first match, beating Tripura handsomely by eight wickets in Round 5 at the Palam A Stadium, New Delhi on Wednesday.
Opting to field first, Hyderabad had Tripura reeling early with left-arm spinner Bavanka Sandeep and India international Mohammed Siraj bowling a tight line. By the seventh over Tirpura could only manage 26 runs, losing both their openers. Samrat Singha (6 off 10 balls) and Udiyan Bose (8 off 21 balls) were removed by pacer Chama Milind and left-arm spinner Mehdi Hassan, respectively. Only Nirupam Sen Chowdhary (16), skipper Manishankar Murasingh (13) and Kaushal Acharjee (13) managed to post double-figure scores, but none build on the their starts.
Ravi Teja got rid of Chowdhary and Murasingh in quick succession before Tripura endured a close that saw them lose their next five wickets for just 21 runs. Tripura stuttered to 79/9 in their allotted 17 overs.
For Hyderabad, Milind claimed 3/11 while Siraj (2/20), Hassan (2/11) and Ravi Teja (2/10) claimed two each.
In reply, Hyderabad knocked off the runs in just 13.1 overs with opener Tanmay Agarwal carrying his bat through with an unbeaten knock of 38 off 41 balls while Kolla Sumanth made 20 off 20. For Tripura, Sanjay Majumdar claimed Hyderabad skipper Akshath Reddy early for seven while Murasingh chipped in with the wicket of Sumanth.
