India A reached 62 for no loss on Day Three at Allan Border Field in Brisbane, trailing by 204 runs after bowling out Australia A for 435. The hosts took a lead of 266 runs in their second innings. Providing fitting reply to the chase, Akhil Herwadkar and Faiz Fazal scored 38 and 23 respectively. Herwadkar has been lucky twice when Jackson Bird dropped a catch and Jon Holland also slipped a simple return. Chadd Sayers has also missed run-out opportunity and that has put Australia A on back foot. Australians had a frustrating session in first half of the day. Australia, who had two wickets remaining before lunch, lost them as well after Lunch.
For Australia, Hilton Cartwright achieved his century on his debut and Sam Whiteman secured his fifty, ensuring the hosts put up commendable total on board. Cartwright had to wait until he could achieve his century, as there was mix-up of the ball and Cartwright’s tension had mounted up considerably. When the play finally resumed, he got two runs from that ball and got his triple figures. Cartwright scored 117 and just then Shardul Thakur struck to get his fourth wicket with India A skipper Naman Ojha getting a comfortable catch.
Whiteman, Australia A’s wicketkeeper-batsman, was equally supporting Cartwright as he lead the side to high score in second innings and possibly could be yet another match winning game for the younger side. Kane Richardson also proved to be helping hand with his score of 19. He coupled it with few boundaries before he was caught at midwicket from off-spin Jayant Yadav. Whiteman also fell for Varun Aaron’s edgy delivery and caught comfortably by Karun Nair. It was India A’s Yadav’ figure of 3 for 95 and Thakur’s 5 for 101 that got India A moving after lunch removing last two batsmen Bird and Sayers for 24 and 7 respectively.
